Hyundai Ioniq 5 Gets Massive Price Cut for 2026

For those eyeing the all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 5, now might be the perfect time to take the plunge. The 2026 Ioniq 5 lineup is rolling out with substantial price reductions across all trims, effectively leveling the playing field with comparable gas-powered SUVs. The new base model starts at an enticing $36,600.

This move seems to be a direct response to the discontinuation of Federal EV tax credits, rather than any groundbreaking advancements in battery technology. Hyundai has effectively compensated for the lost incentives by making the vehicle more affordable upfront.

The average price decrease across the 2026 Ioniq 5 range is a significant $9,155. The most modest reduction is $7,600 for the SE RWD model equipped with the standard range battery. For those opting for the popular SEL trim, the RWD version now comes in at $41,400, while the AWD variant is priced at $44,900, representing a substantial $9,800 saving.

Adventurous drivers interested in the Ioniq 5 XRT AWD will appreciate the new starting price of $47,875, a $9,225 decrease from the 2025 model. And even the premium Limited AWD trim sees a notable price reduction, now starting at $50,575, also a $9,225 saving. The tow hitch for XRT trim only costs $500, if you need it.

Interestingly, every price drop surpasses the $7,500 tax credit that some buyers previously qualified for. This shift means that purchasing decisions can now be driven by powertrain preference and feature sets, rather than being heavily influenced by potential tax incentives.

The big question now is: Will Hyundai extend these price reductions to its other Ioniq models? While there's no official confirmation yet, the move with the Ioniq 5 suggests that similar adjustments could be on the horizon for the rest of Hyundai's EV lineup.
